This series of video works documents non-professional singers in Nashville within their environment, e.g. at the local supermarket, car park, pub, downtown and the bus station. Nashville local inhabitants become both singers in front of a video camera and spectators in the audience. The subsequent result is an alternative and surprising perspective on Nashville, especially given its famous ‘music city’ title.
Another project titled Roots investigates cultural song traditions and heritage. Individuals with a specific family song - often in a language they do not speak - have been recorded and interviewed on the origin of the song within their family unit. The project searches for the role of song in the formation of identity, particularly in a multi-cultural society. |
