People from different ages and social backgrounds perform a song of their choice in front of a video camera. The participants are asked for spontaneous performances without preparation. Herder’s Legacy presents all participants in front of a white background eliminating all visual indication of the place of recording. This audio-visual remake of Herder’s song collection from 1778/9 becomes an open field of research into the visibility of cultural identity within songs.
To date this project comprises of over 500 performances from 5 different countries: Germany, Ireland, France, UK and USA
