The exhibition shows audio-visual exploration of Weimars song culture. In The Singing Town 161 singers are shown on 5 screens according to age. 35 English singers are amongst the performers and the viewer is confronted with a variety of different languages and accents. This audio-visual remake of Herder’s song collection becomes an open field of research into the visibility of cultural identity within song. Inspired by the abundance of songs, interviews and song books the viewer has the opportunity to contribute their own individual song to the Song Archive.
